What had happened was…

After last night’s post, I realized that I didn’t set the stage as to why I’m about to embark on an open-ended road trip with my 4 children in a mini van.  So allow me to clear up the confusion: we’re homeless as of June 1st.

There, now doesn’t it all make sense?  No?  Ok.  Let’s try this.  Our time renting our current home comes to a bittersweet end on June 1st.  We had arrangements to rent another wonderful home in our neighborhood starting September 1st.  It was a dream come true.  We would store our belongings in our current home (a.k.a. wouldn’t have to pack) while the owners put it on the market and we took a 3-month summer vacation.  Micah would work on the road, we would all get gloriously tan and return late-August to WALK our belongings to our new home.  Which, I might add, came complete with a pool, and consequently amazing block parties.  And who knows, maybe even a fifth water birth.  Just kidding.

And then it all fell through.  I’ll spare the details, but suffice it to say I had a decent freak out session, half a chocolate bar, and then took a hike.  Literally.  We acknowledged our need to simmer down (do people still say that?) and so we took the kids on a hike and fishing.  They didn’t catch anything, but that was partly because we didn’t use bait.  Or hooks for that matter.  It was more pretend fishing.  But I had a box of swedish fish, so that helped counter their disappointment over no fish.

Anyway, where was I?  Right.  So our lease expires June 1st and we suddenly have no where to go.  Well, that’s one way to look at it.  But  I’ve chosen to look at it like this: our lease expires June 1st and suddenly we can go anywhere.  So that’s what we’re doing.  Our house is going to storage, the Hero Hubs is going to stay behind with kind and gracious friends while he finds us a new home, and the children and I are going on a grand adventure.  North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee….we’re feeling ambitious, folks.  And I have a new portable dvd player.

I’ve been incredibly thankful for all the offers we’ve received during this time- packing, cleaning, baby sitting, heavy lifting, providing meals and moving supplies and kind words.  Many families have even been crazy enough to offer us room in their homes.  Their quiet, clean homes.  They clearly don’t read my blog.  My one friend Leah even took the bus from NYC to help us pack and make sure the Hero Hubs and I got one last date night in before our temporary separation.

And so there’s much to be thankful for during this time.  And there’s much to look forward to.  And there’ll be plenty to write about!

  1. Sorry the house fell through. I gotta admit though, the traveling part sounds fun! Brave & adventurous 🙂 Let me know if there’s anything I can be doing to help.

  2. Living your lifestyle sounds so much more enjoyable, crazy, and unpredictable than living a ‘typical’ lifestyle! Just maybe a lot of us are missing out on quite a life adventure!!!!!
